Betting on the FedEx Cup Playoffs

The PGA Tour’s FedEx Cup Playoffs will get started this weekend at TPC Boston. The next three events are all considered part of the playoffs.

There are 125 golfers participating at TPC Boston. The field will be shortened to 70 for next weekend, and then only 30 for the final weekend.

The three tournaments are as follows:

  • Aug. 20 – The Northern Trust – TPC Boston, Norton, Mass.
  • Aug. 27 – BMW Championship – Olympia Fields Country Club, Olympia Fields, Ill.
  • Sept. 4 – Tour Championship – East Lake Golf Club, Atlanta

Odds to Win FedEx Cup

Sitting in the top spot of the FedEx Cup rankings is Justin Thomas. He has 2,458 points, while the next closest to him is Collin Morikawa at 1,902 points.

Thomas has a big and early lead, but anything can happen in the tournament. He is a 7/2 favorite to win the playoffs, and a 12/1 favorite to win this weekend at TPC Boston.

Morikawa has been playing some of his best golf and has a good chance to make a move on Thomas this weekend. His PGA Championship performance was impressive, and he will try to keep that momentum in the playoffs.

Sitting in the fourth spot on the FedEx leaderboard is Bryson DeChambeau. He has 1,657 points, just behind Webb Simpson, who is in third. Some experts like the long-ball hitters this weekend, and DeChambeau is exactly that.

He is tied with Thomas as the favorite for this weekend at 12/1, as well as holding the second-best odds to win the playoffs at 5/1.

Patrick Reed will be entering TPC Boston as the defending champion, all while sitting in sixth in the FedEx rankings with 1,426 points. He hopes to find some of the magic he had last year to reach Thomas.

Tony Finau is potentially a great pick for this weekend. He has three top 10 finishes in his last four starts. You have to always like betting the guy who has been staying in contention.

Unfortunately, Brooks Koepka has withdrawn from the Northern Trust this weekend due to an injury. Therefore, his season is over.

He had to play and do well to stay in contention. He was inside the top 125, but not the top 50.

Tiger Is Back

It is always headline news when Tiger Woods is playing in a golf tournament. After a somewhat disappointing PGA Championship, Tiger is back to try to redeem himself.

After not playing much this year, he still sits in 49th place in the FedEx Cup standings. So he will more than likely play at least two weekends as long as he plays decent.

He won the Zozo Championship last fall, which has kept him up in the rankings. Not many people remember since it was so long ago before COVID-19 hit.

His odds to win the playoffs are at 50/1 and seems like a real longshot unless he pulls off a miracle. But it is Tiger Woods.
