Dallas Cowboys at Los Angeles Chargers Betting Preview

Sunday afternoon pits the NFC East versus the AFC West as the Dallas Cowboys (0-1) square off with the Los Angeles Chargers (1-0). The Chargers will host this one at SoFi Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 4:25 pm ET.

The Cowboys had a tough draw for their opening week as they took on the defending champions Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Despite the matchup, they played them tough but ultimately fell 31-29.

The Chargers were victorious in Week 1. Playing on the road, they were able to take down the Washington Football Team 20-16.

The Chargers are the favorites Sunday playing at home. They are -166 to win while the Cowboys’ moneyline sits at +140. The spread features Dallas +3 (-110), and the over/under for total points is 54.5.

More Odds

The Chargers currently have the second-best odds of winning the AFC West at +480, but they have to contend with the top-ranked Kansas City Chiefs for the division crown. For the Cowboys, they are the favorites to win the NFC East at +125.

In terms of the Super Bowl, the Chargers have the better odds of winning it at +2800. The Cowboys are +3100 to win Super Bowl LVI.

By The Numbers

Dallas is 5-10 in their last 15 games, but they are 4-1 against the spread in their last five. In their last five September games, they are 1-4 against the spread.

In their last five games, the Chargers are 5-0 both against the spread and straight up. In their last nine Week 2 games, they are 6-3 against the spread.

Healthy Dak Prescott Looks To Get Cowboys Back On Track

After a disappointing 2020 season, where the Cowboys went 6-10, quarterback Dak Prescott is looking to get Dallas back on track.

Despite the loss to the Buccaneers last week, there were a lot of positives they could take away. Most notably is the play of Prescott. In the game, he threw for 403 yards and three touchdowns while also having one interception.

His favorite receivers in Week 1 were Amari Cooper and CeeDee Lamb. Cooper had 13 receptions for 139 yards and two scores, while Lamb had seven receptions for 104 yards and a touchdown.

The ground game suffered, though, although the Cowboys seemed to purposely avoid the Buccaneers’ tough front seven. Ezekiel Elliott rushed just 11 times for a total of 33 yards.

Chargers Trying To Compete In Tough AFC West

The Los Angeles Chargers are definitely a team on the rise, but as long as Patrick Mahomes and the Chiefs are in their division, they are always going to have a tough time. Still, young quarterback Justin Herbert is trying to prove that the Chargers are for real.

Last week, Herbert threw for 337 yards, one touchdown, and one interception. His leading receivers were Keenan Allen (nine receptions, 100 yards) and Mike Williams (eight receptions, 82 yards, one touchdown).

On the ground, Austin Ekeler went for 57 yards on 15 carries while also adding a touchdown.

Take Dallas And The Points

This one is a tough one to call as the teams are relatively similar. Both teams have dynamic offenses, but they also have concerns on the defensive side.

While the Chargers were able to hold Washington to just 16 points last week, that was after an early injury to Washington’s starting quarterback, Ryan Fitzpatrick.

Facing a much tougher Cowboys’ offense, the Chargers, who ranked 23rd in scoring defense, allowing 26.6 points last season, could have their work cut out for them.

This should be a competitive game throughout. For that reason, take Dallas and the three points.
