Detroit Lions at Chicago Bears Betting Preview

NFC North rivals will clash Sunday afternoon as the Detroit Lions (0-3) take on the Chicago Bears (1-2). The Bears will host this one at Soldier Field, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 pm ET.

The Lions come into this game 0-3, but do not be fooled; they haven’t played too bad to start the season. Their schedule has been brutal, and last week they pushed a Baltimore Ravens team to the brink, ultimately losing 19-17 on some questionable officiating.

For the Bears, the Justin Fields experiment did not get off to a good start. Fields threw for just 68 yards in his first NFL start while rushing for 12 in a 26-6 loss to the Cleveland Browns.

The Bears are the favorites in this one playing at home. They are -152 to win while the Lions’ Moneyline sits at +128. The spread features Detroit +3 (-110), and the over/under for total points is 42.5.

More Odds

Both of these teams are expected to finish at the bottom of the NFC North. In terms of odds to win the division, the Bears are +1300, and the Lions are +5000.

Chicago comes in at +12000 to win Super Bowl LVI while the Lions are +100000.

By The Numbers

Detroit is 0-7 in their last seven games overall and 1-5 in their last six against Chicago. When looking at the over/under, the over has hit in 9 of the last 13 games for the Lions.

The Bears have also struggled as of late. They are 1-4, both straight up and against the spread in their last five games. In their last nine games against Detroit, the under has hit six times.

Lions Hope To Pick Up First Win In Week 4

The Lions have had to face the 49ers, Packers, and the Ravens through the first three weeks of the season. Those three teams all rank in the top eight for best odds of winning the Super Bowl this season. Despite the tough matchups, they lost by a field goal or less in two of the three games.

Leading the way on offense is Jared Goff. After being acquired in the offseason, Goff has impressed, throwing for 801 yards, five touchdowns, and two interceptions.

In the backfield, D’Andre Swift has gotten off to an impressive start. He has rushed for 123 yards and a touchdown while hauling in 19 receptions for 166 yards and another score. The talent is there for Swift; the biggest question has always been health.

Defensively, the Lions rank tied for last in scoring defense, allowing 31.7 points per game.

Bears Fans Growing Tired Of Head Coach Nagy

Hired as an offensive guru, Bears’ head coach Matt Nagy has been anything but in his tenure in Chicago. After an embarrassing performance in Justin Fields’ debut, Bears’ fans want Nagy to give up the play calling.

The other issue is his lack of commitment to a quarterback. Andy Dalton is trying to work his way back from injury, but Nagy suggested the Bears could turn to third-string quarterback Nick Foles this week instead of Fields. With Fields obviously the future, this indecisiveness seems questionable at best.

On the ground, David Montgomery has rushed 46 times for 203 yards and a score. He also has six receptions for 49 yards.

One indication of the offense’s struggles is that only one receiver has over 100 yards receiving, and that person (Darnell Mooney) has only eclipsed that figure by a single yard.

Defensively, Chicago ranks 19th in the NFL, allowing 25.7 points per game.

Take Detroit To Win

Things are not good right now in Chicago. The offense is seemingly broken while the defense is showing signs of age.

On the flip side, while Detroit’s defense leaves a lot to be desired, there is optimism with how they are playing.

This seems like the right spot for Detroit to pick up their first win of the season. Definitely take Detroit and the points, but don’t hesitate to take them on the Moneyline.
