Dustin Johnson Runs Away at the Northern Trust

The Northern Trust was the first weekend of the FedExCup tournament, and it wasn’t close. Dustin Johnson blew away the competition, shooting 30-under par.

The next closest golfer to him was Harris English, who shot 19-under par. Johnson had rounds of 67, 60, 63, and 64 at TPC Boston. He walked away with over $1.7 million.

Johnson is now back at number one in the World Golf Rankings. He will now move into the top spot in the FedEx rankings after the win.

“The FedExCup is something I have not won and I would like to win,” Johnson said. “It’s definitely something on my list of goals to accomplish. I would like to be a FedEx Cup champion.”

Dominating Weekend

Johnson is one of the top golfers in the world and has been for some time. So, it isn’t the fact that he won this tournament that is baffling; it’s the way he did it.

At one point, he was 11 under through 11 holes in the second round. After that performance, he ran away with it.

“Obviously being 11 under through 11, it was fun for me,” he said. “I would imagine it’s pretty fun to watch, too.”

Yes. Yes, it was.

Johnson will now enter the BMW Championship next weekend with his eyes on winning the Cup. Justin Thomas, the former leader in FedExCup points, was bumped to second after Johnson’s win.

The BMW Championship will be followed by the finale, the Tour Championship. This will be the top players in contention to win the Cup, and Johnson will be the betting favorite.

If he continues to play at this level, he will be hard to catch.

Tiger Ends Northern Trust on High-Note

Whenever Tiger Woods is playing, people always watch. He didn’t compete for this win at the Northern Trust, but he had a solid final round that had fans’ attention.

He shot a 66 on Sunday but mentioned missing the fans that can’t be in attendance due to COVID-19.

“You hit good shots and you get on nice little runs, we don’t have the same energy … the same fan energy,” said Woods. “It is different. Normally you may have like a Thursday or Friday morning round when there’s no one out here. By the time you get around the turn, people start coming around. But it’s been like that from the word go. And yeah, it is very different.”

Even after the great round, he finished near the bottom of those who made the cut with a six-under-par.

Tiger discussed losing a bit of advantage over other players with the absence of fans. He is used to thousands of people screaming at him, and the added pressure that brings. Other players had to deal with the mob of a crowd that Tiger drew.

He will advance to the BMW Championship but needs a great weekend to move on to the Tour Championship.
