Jordan Spieth (+6500) Seeks PGA Championship Victory, Career Grand Slam Feat

It has been a little more than three years since Jordan Spieth last won an event on the PGA Tour. To say that a win is needed would be the understatement of the century.

There’s a lot more at stake this weekend, though, as the case has been for the last three years. Spieth is still looking for that elusive final win in a PGA major tournament, which would give him the career Grand Slam – wins in all four majors. The PGA Tournament is the only one he still has yet to concur.

“It’s something that I really want. It’s probably the No. 1 goal in the game of golf for me right now is to try and capture that,” Spieth said Tuesday after a practice round at TPC Harding Park, where the PGA Championship begins Thursday. “I’d love to be able to hold all four trophies, and this is the one that comes in the way right now.”

There have only been five golfers to win the career Grand Slam – Gene Sarazen, Ben Hogan, Gary Player, Jack Nicklaus, and Tiger Woods. The latter two have actually achieved the feat three times each.

Spieth is ranked 62nd in the world and has only three Top-3 finishes over the past three seasons. His best finish in recent memory was a Top-5 finish at the PGA Championship last year.

“I almost feel at times like the game is testing me a little bit right now because I feel really good about the progress I’ve been making, and then it seems like I’ll really have one brewing, and then I’ll get where I used to hit a tree and go in the fairway, it’ll hit a tree and go off the cart path out of bounds, like it did during my most recent round,” Spieth said. “It just feels like I kind of here or there am taking some punches right now as I’m really progressing in the right direction.”

“I feel like you can look at it a couple ways. You can get really upset and complain about it, which I’ve done, and that’s not helpful, or you can look at it like, hey, this is part of the game testing you, and the better you handle these situations, the faster you progress forward.”

Odds to Win

According to FanDuel Sportsbook, Spieth has massive +6500 odds to win the PGA Championship this weekend. If you think that’s too far-fetched, perhaps taking a bet on him to finish in a particular spot will seem more appealing.

Top-40 Finish: -110

Top-30 Finish: +170

Top-20 Finish: +280

Top-10 Finish: +550

Top-5 Finish: +1200

It will certainly be a shock to see golf’s first major championship played without fans, but this is the new world we’re living in. It will also be interesting to see how the TV ratings fare up against Major League Baseball, the National Basketball Association, and National Hockey League all going on at the same time.
