Kansas City Chiefs at Los Angeles Chargers Betting Preview

Thursday Night Football pits the top two teams in the AFC West against one another as the Kansas City Chiefs (9-4) take on the Los Angeles Chargers (8-5). The Chargers will host this one at SoFi Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.
After losing to the Chargers 30-24 in Week 3, the Chiefs are looking to get their revenge as they travel to Los Angeles. Kansas City has quietly been on a roll as of late as they have strung together six wins in a row.
In their last game, they took down the Las Vegas Raiders 48-9. In the win, Patrick Mahomes threw for 258 yards and two scores while Clyde Edwards-Helaire rushed for another two scores.
The Chargers have also done well to stick around in the standings as they have won three of their last four, including the last two in a row. Last week, they beat the New York Giants 37-21 at home.
Justin Herbert threw for 275 yards and three touchdowns in the win. Austin Ekeler added 67 yards rushing and another touchdown.
The Chiefs are the favorites in this one despite playing on the road. They are -164 to win while the Chargers’ moneyline sits at +138. The spread features Los Angeles +3 (-108), and the over/under for total points is 52.5.
More Odds
The Chiefs are currently the favorites to win the division at -230. The Chargers are +200 to win the AFC West.
In terms of the Super Bowl, the Chiefs have the second-best odds of winning it all at +500. The Chargers are +2200 to win Super Bowl LVI.
By The Numbers
These two teams are tied for the eighth-best offense in the league. They are both averaging 27 points per game. The Chiefs are averaging 24.9 points per game at home, while the Chargers are averaging 22.8 on the road.
Defensively, it is the Chiefs with the big advantage. They rank sixth in scoring defense allowing opponents an average of 20.6 points per game (18.5 at home). The Chargers rank 26th, allowing 25.8 points per game.
Chiefs Look For Seventh In A Row
Trying to maintain the lead in the AFC West, the Chiefs will also be looking for their seventh win in a row. To do so, they will have to win on the road, where they are currently 3-2 this season.
Leading the offense under center is Patrick Mahomes. This season, he has thrown for 3,642 yards, 27 touchdowns, and 12 interceptions. He has also rushed for 270 yards and another two scores.
Mahomes’ favorite targets continue to be Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce. Hill has 1,030 yards receiving and eight touchdowns. Kelce has gone for 875 yards and five scores.
On the ground, the Chiefs are led by Clyde Edwards-Helaire. In eight games, he has rushed for 458 yards and three touchdowns. He also has 107 receiving yards with another couple of scores.
Chargers Could Take Firm Control Of Division With A Win
Especially with their win earlier in the season, a win on Thursday would put the Chargers in the driver’s seat in the AFC West. With the Chiefs on a roll, though, that won’t be easy.
Justin Herbert will try to take care of business on the offensive side. He has thrown for 3,822 yards, 30 touchdowns, and 11 interceptions this year. He also has 268 yards rushing with another two scores.
The leading rusher for the Chargers is Austin Ekeler. He has rushed for 730 yards on 161 carries with nine touchdowns. He is technically questionable for Thursday night with an ankle injury, but the expectation is that he will play.
It is also expected that Herbert will have his two top receivers available to him as well. Keenan Allen has 86 receptions for 929 yards and four touchdowns, while Mike Williams has 61 receptions for 915 yards and seven scores.
Take The Chiefs To Win On The Road
This one comes with the caveat that anything can happen on Thursday nights. With a short week, it is not uncommon to see upsets. Still, it is hard to ignore the type of run the Chiefs have been on, especially since they have been getting the job done on both sides of the ball.
The defense will have its work cut out for them against a solid Chargers’ offense, but even if they can pick up a few key stops, it should be enough for Patrick Mahomes and the offense to take care of the rest.
Take the Chiefs to win on the road.
