Kansas City Chiefs at Los Vegas Raiders Betting Preview
With all four teams in the AFC West sitting at five wins, it is shaping up to be one of the most exciting divisions to watch down the stretch. On Sunday Night Football, two of those teams square off as the Kansas City Chiefs (5-4) take on the Las Vegas Raiders (5-3).
The Raiders will host this one at Allegiant Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 8:20 pm ET.
While the Chiefs have not shown the same dominance as years past, they do come into this matchup, having won two games in a row. Last week, it was a 13-7 victory over the Green Bay Packers. In the win, Patrick Mahomes threw for just 166 yards and a touchdown while Darrel Williams led with 70 yards rushing.
Last Vegas comes into this one off of a loss as they were downed by the New York Giants 23-16 last week. Derek Carr threw for 296 yards and a touchdown, but he also had two costly interceptions. The Raiders will look to get back on track at home, where they are 3-1 this season.
The Chiefs are the slight favorites despite playing on the road. They are -146 to win while the Raiders’ moneyline sits at +124. The spread features Las Vegas +2.5 (-102), and the over/under for total points is 52 (-110).
More Odds
In the crowded AFC West, the Chiefs have the second-best odds of winning the division at +175. The Raiders are +450 to win the division.
In terms of winning the Super Bowl, the Chiefs are tied for the sixth-best odds of winning it all at +1200. The Raiders are +4000 to win Super Bowl LVI.
By The Numbers
These teams have been pretty similar from an offensive standpoint. The Chiefs are 15th in scoring averaging 24.6 points per game (27.8 on the road). The Raiders are 16th, averaging 24.5 points (26.5 at home).
Defensively, the Raiders hold the advantage. They rank 15th in scoring defense allowing opponents an average of 23.6 points per game. The Chiefs fall to 25th, allowing 25.2 points per game.
Chiefs Trying To Find Consistency
Unfortunately for Chiefs’ fans, this is not the team nor the Patrick Mahomes they have become accustomed to over the last few years. Even with their two consecutive wins, they have averaged just 12 points per game over the last three contests.
On Sunday, they will look to get back on track against a division rival.
This season, Mahomes has thrown for 2,534 yards and 20 touchdowns but has also thrown an uncharacteristic ten interceptions and has been sacked 17 times. Mahomes also has 227 yards rushing with another score.
Through the air, Tyreek Hill and Travis Kelce continue to be Mahomes’ main targets. Hill has 68 receptions for 772 yards and six touchdowns. Kelce has 54 receptions for 628 yards and five touchdowns.
Vegas Tries To Hold Off Chiefs In Division Standings
After starting the season 3-0, the Raiders have come back down to Earth a bit over the last several weeks. Still, they are in a solid spot to compete for the division crown and will try to hold off the Chiefs at home in primetime Sunday.
Leading the way for the Raiders under center is quarterback Derek Carr. Thus far, he has thrown for 2,565 yards, 13 touchdowns, and seven interceptions.
While the Raiders released Henry Ruggs III after his arrest for an accident that led to the death of a woman last week, they quickly picked up some reinforcements by signing veteran wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
Previously with the Rams, the 35-year-old Jackson had eight receptions for 221 yards and a touchdown. He will now join a receiving core that includes Darren Waller (40 receptions, 470 yards, two touchdowns) and Hunter Renfrow (45 receptions, 448 yards, three touchdowns).
Taking Las Vegas And The Points
While it seems inevitable that the Chiefs’ offense is bound to erupt, they just have seemed off for most of the season.
With the Raiders having their own inconsistencies as of late, it wouldn’t be shocking for this one to come down to the wire.
For that reason, take the points. In this case, that means taking Las Vegas at +2.5 (-102).
