Lawrence’s Heisman Odds Improve

As of right now, the ACC will still play its 2020 fall football season. Since the Pac-12 and Big Ten have canceled, Clemson quarterback Trevor Lawrence’s Heisman odds have improved.

Without the Big Ten playing, Ohio State quarterback Justin Fields has been eliminated from contention. He was the closest in odds next to Lawrence.

Lawrence was around +330 before the two Power 5 conferences canceled their seasons.

Here is the rest of the odds for the 2020 Heisman without the Pac-12 and Big Ten.

  • Trevor Lawrence (QB, Clemson) +200
  • Spencer Rattler (QB, Oklahoma) +900
  • D’Eriq King (QB, Miami) +1400
  • Myles Brennan (QB, LSU) +1400
  • Sam Ehlinger (QB, Texas) +1400
  • Jamie Newman (QB, Georgia) +1600
  • Mac Jones (QB, Alabama) +1600
  • Chuba Hubbard (RB, Oklahoma State) +2000
  • Ian Book (QB, Notre Dame) +2000
  • Sam Howell (QB, North Carolina) +2000

Lawrence Leading the Tigers

Lawrence had a bit of a disappointing season last year, only showing flashes of what he can be. But there is no doubt of his talent and abilities at the quarterback position.

The President of the United States even mentioned the quarterback during his COVID-19 briefing a week ago.

“He’s an incredible quarterback, as you know, from an incredible school — Clemson,” Donald Trump said. “He’s gonna have a very good future in the NFL. He’s got everything. He’s got height, accuracy, a strong arm, and he’s fast.”

Lawrence is excited for the season and has been one of the advocates of playing, regardless of the COVID-19 situation.

“Everyone’s thought about it, but since I made the decision to play, I haven’t thought about it,” Lawrence said after Clemson’s practice Friday, per ESPN. “I’m committed. It’s my last year here, and I’m super pumped.”

Clemson has emerged as a football powerhouse. They will be aiming to grab another championship behind their quarterback. Lawrence is also expected to be the top pick in next year’s NFL Draft.

Other Players Contending for Heisman

Chuba Hubbard will be interesting to watch this season and could end up with the Heisman Trophy. Many were surprised that he decided to play at Oklahoma State this year instead of going into the NFL Draft.

He was the Big 12 Offensive Player of the Year in 2019, rushing for 2,094 yards. Hubbard has been among the college athletes that have tweeted “#WeWantToPlay.” He sits at +2000 to win the Heisman.

The second in odds for the most prestigious college football award is Spencer Rattler. He is the starting quarterback for the Oklahoma Sooners.

Their head coach, Lincoln Riley, is known for his offensive mind. The last three quarterbacks for Riley have all made the finalist list for the Heisman.

These are high expectations for a quarterback with virtually no experience. He only had seven completions on 11 attempts in 2019.

The college football season is going to be interesting if it happens. The season, schedule, and awards will all be a little different.

Hopefully, the remaining conferences can find a way to play this fall and crown a Heisman winner.
