It’s an NL West showdown when the LA Dodgers head to Colorado to face the Rockies. The Dodgers and Rockies will both have a quick turnaround with Los Angeles coming off their series against the Padres and Colorado finishing up against the Athletics.
With the regular season coming to a close, each game will be vital for the Dodgers who currently hold the top spot in the NL West and the National League overall. For the Rockies, these games determine whether or not they can steal a spot in the playoffs. Although a postseason berth might seem improbable for Colorado, it’s not impossible.

The Dodgers have one of the league’s best on base percentages, a testament to their strong batting lineup. Even when faced with relative adversity, the Dodgers have shown poise and strength in this short season. The Dodgers seem headed towards the number one spot in the National League and head into the playoffs as a World Series favorite.
This four-game series against Colorado gives the Dodgers a chance to extend their lead on the San Diego Padres, and solidify their position atop the NL West. Not to say that’ll be a walk in the park considering the Rockies had a big win against the Oakland Athletics on Monday.

Do the Rockies Have Enough Firepower to Hang with LA?
It’s tough to say which Rockies team you’ll see in the first game of this series. Will it be the same Colorado squad who stole a series 2-1 from the Dodgers a few weeks ago? Will it be the Rockies team who lost three-straight to San Diego, one game in particular being a 14-5 loss.
The inconsistency with the Rockies is what scares bettors away from them. From one night to the next they go from looking like a National League contender to a farm team. That being said, the Rockies are in over their heads against the red hot Dodgers. The last series these two played against each other did open with a 10-6 Rockies win, however.

The key for me in this one is the starting pitchers. The Dodgers start Julio Urias who is 3-0 on the season while Colorado goes with 2-1 Kyle Freeland. Look for L.A. to overwhelm the Rockies with great batting and get ahead early. After gaining a solid lead, they’ll focus on closing out innings quickly to get out of the opening game of this series with a win, Los Angeles Dodgers -161.
