A pair of Western Conference teams looking to get hot to start the second half of the season will get together on Thursday. The Los Angeles Lakers are at the Golden State Warriors.
The Lakers are 30-26 on the season. Los Angeles is 9th in the Western Conference. Before the break, the Lakers went on the road and beat the Utah Jazz. It was their third straight win.
For the Golden State Warriors, they also won before the break. The Warriors also beat the Jazz in their final game. Golden State has actually won 8 out of their last 10 games overall. The Warriors are now 27-26 on the season, and 10th in the Western Conference standings.
The Golden State Warriors are favorites at home in this game. The Warriors are -4.5. The total for these two teams is set at 241.5.
Lakers Seeking Big Second Half
The Los Angeles Lakers would like to seem themselves as one of the favorites to win the NBA title. Sitting at just four games above .500, and fighting for a spot in the dance is not putting confidence in many. The Lakers though know with a big second half they can move up the standings. Los Angeles is just 3.5 games back of the fifth seed.
Anthony Davis and LeBron James have gone back and forth all season for the team leading in scoring. Davis is currently at 24.9 per game, while James is at 24.8. De’Angelo Russell comes in third for Los Angeles with just under 18 per game. Austin Reeves is also adding 15.8 points per game.
The Lakers will host the Spurs on Friday, and then go on the road for back to back games at the Suns and Clippers. The final game of February for the Lakers is on the 29th against the Washington Wizards.
Warriors Fighting for Position
The Warriors have lost just two games in February. THe first was on the road at Atlanta, and the second was most recent at home against the Clippers. Golden State would love to get into a better position, and away from the 11th place Utah Jazz. Golden State needs to be better at home, as they are just 14-14.
Golden State elected to not trade away Klay Thompson at the deadline. The guard is still second on the team with 17.3 points per game. Steph Curry, of course, is the leader, as he is scoring 28 per game. Jonathan Kuminga is having a nice season for the Warriors, with 1 5.5 points per game.
The Warriors will host the Hornets and Nuggets later this week, before starting out on the road. Golden State will make trips to Washington, New York, Toronto and Boston, before making the trip back home.
Lakers Win on the Road
The Los Angeles Lakers and Golden State Warriors both really need wins. Both teams used the break to rest some of their aging players’ legs. In the end, the combination of LeBron James and Anthony Davis is going to win out in this game. Look for a big second half from the Lakers.
