Los Angeles Rams at Indianapolis Colts Betting Preview

Sunday will feature a battle of NFC versus AFC as the Los Angeles Rams (1-0) will square off with the Indianapolis Colts (0-1). The Colts will host this one at Lucas Oil Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 1:00 pm ET.

The Rams were able to get off to a strong start in Week 1 with a 34-14 home victory over the Chicago Bears.

For the Colts, they weren’t quite as fortunate. They lost their home opener 28-16 against the Seattle Seahawks.

The Rams are the favorites in this one despite playing on the road. They are -186 to win while the Colts’ moneyline sits at +156. The spread features Indianapolis +3.5 (-110), and the over/under for total points is 47.5.

More Odds

Currently, Indianapolis has the second-best odds of winning the AFC South at +140. The Rams also sit with the second-best odds in a loaded NFC West at +210.

In terms of the Super Bowl, the Rams are one of the favorites this year. In fact, they have the third-best odds to win it all at +1300. Indianapolis is currently +4000 to win Super Bowl LVI.

By The Numbers

In their last 20 games, the Rams are 13-7 overall, and they are 6-3 in their last nine against Indianapolis. In the month of September, Los Angeles is 11-2 in their last 13 games in the month.

At Lucas Oil Stadium, the Colts are a disappointing 1-6 against the spread in their last seven games. Furthermore, in their last eight games, they are 0-8 straight up when playing as the underdog.

Rams Need Every Win They Can Get

With a division that consists of the 49ers, Seahawks, and Cardinals, all legitimate playoff contenders, the Rams know they need every win this season if they hope to take the NFC West. To show how strong the division is, every team in the division won their opener.

For Los Angeles, they will now look to win their second road game in a row on Sunday.

Leading the way for the Rams is offseason acquisition Matthew Stafford. In his first game with the Rams, he threw for 321 yards and three touchdowns.

Cooper Kupp was Stafford’s favorite target in Week 1. He had seven receptions for 108 yards and a touchdown.

Defensively, the Rams were able to get three sacks in their first game, including two by Justin Hollins. David Long also added an interception.

Wentz Looks For First Win In Indy

The Rams aren’t the only team with a new quarterback under center. After being acquired from the Philadelphia Eagles, the Colts are hoping that Carson Wentz can pick up his first victory in a Colts’ uniform in Week 2.

In Week 1, Wentz threw for 251 yards and two touchdowns. He also rushed four times for 23 yards.

Wentz did rely a lot on his running backs in the passing game in the first week. In fact, Jonathan Taylor (17 rushes for 56 yards, six receptions for 60 yards) and Nyheim Hines (nine rushes for 34 yards, six receptions for 48 yards) led both the ground and air game.

Tight end Zach Pascal may have been the biggest benefactor of Week 1. While he had just four receptions for 43 yards, two of those receptions ended in touchdowns.

Take Los Angeles To Win And Cover

Rams’ fans have to be excited with what they saw out of Stafford in their Week 1 win. Seen as the missing piece to what could be a Super Bowl contender, Matthew Stafford did not disappoint in his debut.

The Rams can now couple a dynamic offense with a defense that ranked second in scoring defense last year, allowing just 19.3 points per game.

Expect the Rams to shine on both sides of the ball Sunday against the Colts. Take the Rams to not only win but to cover the modest 3.5-point spread as well.
