New York Yankees at New York Mets Betting Preview

The Big Apple is on full display Wednesday night as the New York Yankees (66-32) and New York Mets (60-37) square off for the second of a two-game series. This Subway Series game will be held at Citi Field, with the first pitch scheduled for 7:10 pm ET.

In the first game, the New York Mets were able to take down the Yankees 6-3. In the win, Taijuan Walker went six innings, allowing three runs on seven hits while striking out three.

Offensively, the Mets hit two home runs, including Starling Marte’s 10th and Eduardo Escobar’s 12th. In total, they had six runs on ten hits.

For the Yankees, Jordan Montgomery struggled, giving up five runs (four earned) in 2.1 innings. Aaron Judge and Anthony Rizzo went deep, but it wasn’t enough for a Yankees team that left 18 on base.

The New York Mets are the favorites in this one playing at home. They are -174 to win while the Yankees’ moneyline sits at +146. The runline features the Yankees +1.5 (-146), and the over/under for total runs is eight.

Yankees Try To Get Back On Track

At 66-32, the New York Yankees lead the AL East by 11.5 games. While the Yankees are in no imminent danger of losing the AL East, they are still trying to get back on track after losing six of their last 10.

Trying to help them pick up another win is 29-year-old Domingo German. This will be just the second start of the season for him. In his first outing of the season, last Thursday, he gave up five runs on six hits in just three innings of work against the Astros.

Offensively, Anthony Rizzo has hit well against the Mets’ Max Scherzer. In 18 at bats, he is hitting .278 with a home run. Kyle Higashioka has also homered off of the righty in his career.

The Yankees’ best hitter continues to be Aaron Judge. In 361 at bats, Judge is hitting .296/.378/.657 with a team-leading 38 home runs, 82 runs batted in, and 81 runs scored.

Mets Try To Sweep Subway Series

Even though it is only two games, the Mets would love to sweep the Subway Series from the Yankees at Citi Field. When playing at home this season, the Mets are 30-17, and they will look to add another tally to the win column Wednesday.

On the mound for the Mets is future Hall-of-Famer Max Scherzer. In 12 games this season, he is 6-2 with a 2.28 ERA and 0.89 WHIP, and he has 98 strikeouts in 75 innings of work.

In his last three starts, Scherzer has given up a combined five runs in 19.1 innings of work. In that span, Scherzer has given up 16 hits and struck out 28.

Mark Canha has had the most success against Domingo German in his career. In nine at bats, he is hitting .667 with a home run and three runs batted in. J.D. Davis and Jeff McNeil have also taken German deep.

Pete Alonso continues to crush the ball for the Mets. He is currently hitting .280/.355/.541 with 25 home runs, 83 runs batted in, and 54 runs scored.

Take Mets To Win And Cover

It isn’t very often that a prediction is made for the Yankees to lose by two or more, but that is exactly what could happen in this one. Both of these teams rank in the top six in offense this year, but only one has a bonafide ace on the mound Wednesday.

Expect Max Scherzer to deal in this one while Domingo German still looks to get in a groove after getting his season started late.

Obviously, it is hard to count out the Yankees, so taking them on the runline might be enticing, but it just seems like the Yankees’ rough stretch of play will extend at least one more game.

Take the Mets -1.5 (+122).
