New York Yankees vs. Atlanta Braves Betting Preview

Tuesday concludes a short two-game interleague series between two of the hottest teams in baseball as the New York Yankees (73-52) take on the Atlanta Braves (68-57). The Braves will host this one at Truist Park, with first pitch scheduled for 7:20 pm ET.

The Yankees took the opener of this series 5-1 on Monday. In the win, Giancarlo Stanton hit his 21st home run of the season to support a one-run outing over five innings by Jordan Montgomery.

In the loss, Huascar Ynoa had a quality start giving up three runs over six innings while striking out nine, but it was still not enough to avoid the loss. Dansby Swanson accounted for the Braves’ only run with his 25th home run of the season.

The Braves are the favorites in this one playing at home. They are -151 to win while the Yankees’ moneyline sits at +139. The runline features New York +1.5 (-155), and the over/under for total runs is 9.5.

Pitching Matchup

The New York Yankees will turn to southpaw Andrew Heaney in the finale Tuesday. This season, he is 8-8 with a 5.51 ERA. Over his last seven starts, he is 1-1 with a 4.76 ERA.

The Atlanta Braves will turn to Charlie Morton to try to get the split. Morton is 12-4 with a 3.47 ERA, 1.09 WHIP, and has 164 strikeouts over 140 innings. In his last two starts, he has given up a combined four runs over 12 innings in route to two wins.

By The Number

Offensively, the Braves have been the better of the two teams this season. They rank eighth in scoring averaging 4.93 runs per game (5.22 at home). The Yankees rank 20th, averaging 4.33 runs.

The Yankees hold the advantage on the defensive side. They currently rank eighth in scoring defense, allowing opponents just 3.98 runs per game. The Braves rank 12th allowing 4.15 runs.

Yankees Try To Stay Red Hot

After starting the season with losing records in two of their first three months, the Yankees have been red hot as of late. In fact, in July and August, they have a combined record thus far of 32-13.

With their hot streak, the Yankees have improved to 73-53 overall and hold the first Wild Card spot in the American League. They also sit just four games back of the Tampa Bay Rays for the AL East lead.

Leading the way for the Yankees on offense is outfielder Aaron Judge. He is currently hitting .283/.377/.520 with a team-leading 27 home runs, 65 runs batted in, and 65 runs scored.

One player to keep an eye on is outfielder Brett Gardner. In his career against Morton, he is hitting .304 in 23 at-bats with three home runs and five runs batted in.

Braves Try To Hold NL East Lead

There are a lot of similarities between the Yankees and the Braves. Like New York, Atlanta had losing records in two of their first three months this season, and like New York, they have been red hot since.

In fact, in July, they were 14-12, but they busted out of the gates in August to the tune of a 16-4 record. That has given the Braves a 4.5 game lead over the Phillies in the division with under 40 games to play.

With Ronald Acuna Jr. done for the season, the Braves needed someone to step up, and both Freddie Freeman and Austin Riley have done just that.

For Freeman, he is currently hitting .297/.393/.512 with 27 home runs, 70 runs batted in, 92 runs scored, and seven stolen bases. Not to be outdone, Riley is hitting .296/.370/.532 with 27 home runs, 76 runs batted in, and 70 runs scored.

Take The Braves To Split

This one comes down to pitching. While Heaney is 2-1 in four games with the Yankees, he also has an ugly 6.55 ERA in 22 innings pitched. On the other hand, Morton has been steady all season long.

As two of the hottest teams in all of baseball, it would only make sense that they would split a two-game series.
Expect the Braves to do exactly that. Take them to win Tuesday’s finale.
