NFL News and Notes for November 9
As we enter Week 10 of the NFL season, we are quickly approaching the home stretch of the schedule. With so many divisions still up for grabs, fans around the country are settling in for what should be an exciting end to the regular season.
While all of the focus is on the action on the field, let’s take a look at some of the other stories from around the NFL.
Russell Wilson Set To Return In Week 10
According to Adam Schefter of ESPN, it appears that Seattle Seahawks quarterback Russell Wilson has been cleared and could play this weekend against the Packers.
Wilson had surgery on a finger in his throwing hand in October, and he has missed three games. Now, coming off of a bye week, the Seahawks believe that he should be a go.
Prior to the injury, Wilson had thrown for 1,196 yards, ten touchdowns, and just a single interception in five games. He also had rushed for 68 yards and another score.
In his absence, Geno Smith has been working under center. In three starts, he led the team to a 1-2 record and threw for 702 yards, five touchdowns, and an interception.
The Seahawks currently sit third in the NFC West with a 3-5 record, and they trail the Cardinals (8-1) by 4.5 games.
Despite being just +4500 to win the division and +9000 to win the Super Bowl, the Seahawks will hope to catch lightning in a bottle and make a run at a playoff spot.
Cardinals’ Lose A Running Back For Immediate Future
Even though the Cardinals are off to a strong 8-1 start, they were hit with some bad news this weekend as running back Chase Edmonds suffered a high-ankle sprain. According to NFL.com’s Ian Rapoport, it appears he may miss the next few weeks.
Thus far this season, Edmonds has rushed for 430 yards and a touchdown on 76 carries. He also has 30 receptions for 211 yards.
Edmonds has been splitting time with James Conner (454 yards, ten touchdowns) in the backfield. The duo has the Cardinals ranked eighth in rushing yards per game (132.6) and second in scoring (30.8).
Arizona has the fourth-best odds of winning the Super Bowl this season at +850.
Raiders Bring In One Wide Receiver, Dismiss Another
There may not be a more hectic division in all of football than the AFC West. Currently, all four teams have five wins, with the Raiders and Chargers holding three losses and the Chiefs and Broncos having four losses.
With the competition so tight, the Las Vegas Raiders are trying to separate themselves from the competition, and they added a wide receiver into the mix this week. After being released by the Los Angeles Rams, the Raiders signed wide receiver DeSean Jackson.
This season, with Los Angeles, Jackson had just eight receptions for 221 yards and a touchdown. In Las Vegas, he is certainly going to add depth to the wide receiver room, particularly after the team cut Henry Ruggs.
For Ruggs, his dismissal stemmed from his arrest in a car accident that included the death of a young woman and two felony charges for Ruggs.
Prior to the accident, Ruggs had 24 receptions for 469 yards and two touchdowns. The Raiders hope that Jackson can help fill the void left by Ruggs’ dismissal.
The Raiders currently hold the third-best odds of winning the AFC West at +450, and they are +4100 to win Super Bowl LVI.
