World Series Tied 1 Game Each Heading to Arizona

The 2023 World Series has moved to a best-of-five series now, with both teams winning a game in Texas.

After the Rangers came from behind to win the first game of the series in extra innings, Arizona pounded Texas on Saturday to even the series.

Here is how things have gone done, and what to expect ahead.

Game One to Texas

In the Game One win for Texas, Adolis Garcia hit a walk-off home run in the 11th inning to send everyone home. In the win, Garcia set the record for most RBIs in a single postseason with 22.

The Rangers used a Corey Seager home run in the 9th inning to tie the game. Texas finished the game with nine hits, with Garcia coming away with three of them. Jose LeClerc picked up the win in this game for Texas.

Game Two to Arizona

In Game Two, it was all Diamondbacks. Ketel Marte was a record-breaker in this game. For the 18th straight game, he picked up a hit and set the longest postseason hitting streak record.

The Diamondbacks pounded out 16 hits in the game while holding Texas to just four. Merrill Kelly moved to 3-1 in the postseason, going seven strong innings in the game.

Jordan Montgomery took his first postseason loss, going six innings and allowing four runs in the game. Tommy Pham had a big game for Arizona with two doubles.

What’s Next in the 2023 World Series

Game 3: the Arizona Diamondbacks will send rookie Brandon Pfaadt to the mound. Pfaadt was solid in his game seven start against the Phillies.

For Texas, they have announced a starter, but it’s likely that Max Scherzer will get the start. He made two starts against the Astros and lasted 6.2 innings, allowing nine hits and seven runs.

Texas used Andrew Heaney as their fourth starter in the series against the Astros, but he only retired two batters. Heaney threw in the loss on Saturday but threw just six pitches.

Games 3, 4, and 5 will be played on Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday in Arizona. If the series gets back to Texas, the games will be played on Friday and Saturday, making it the November Classic.

Regular Season Success

During the regular season, the Texas Rangers went 90-72 and tied with Houston at the top of the American League West. The Astros were awarded the home-field advantage due to their head-to-head series win over Texas in the regular season.

For the Diamondbacks, they had to scratch and claw to get into the postseason. Arizona went 84-78, which grabbed them at sixth in the National League and the final wildcard.

The Rangers went 40-41 on the road this season during the regular season but won all four games on the road at Houston in the last series. For the Diamondbacks, they went 43-38 at home in the regular season.

Short History of World Series Success for Both Teams

Texas is on a short list of teams in Major League Baseball that has never won a World Series. The Rangers reached the World Series in 2011 but fell short in a great series against the St. Louis Cardinals. The club has not been back since then.

For Arizona, they are back in the World Series for the first time since 2001. That was one of the most popular World Series of all time, coming just after the 9/11 attacks in New York City. The Diamondbacks took down the New York Yankees in that Fall Classic.
