As the conference season in College Basketball starts to approach, it’s another good time to look at the updated betting odds to win the national title. The odds have been updated according to the first month of play. Let’s take a look at the odds for some of the top teams in the country:
Purdue Boilermakers +1000
Matt Painter and his Boilermakers spent a week at the top spot, but then fell on the road at Northwestern in their Big Ten opener. The country knows Zach Edey, but the key for the Boilermakers is their guard play. If their guards can get the job done, this is a national title contender. If they do not get it done – this is a first round loss team.
Kansas Jayhawks +1100
The Kansas Jayhawks have the one loss on the season, which came in Hawaii to Marquette. Bill Self is trying to get a little more consistency from his guards, but with Dickinson in the mix, they are tough to defend. When Kansas makes shots and really digs in on defense, this is a really impressive team. Kansas will see Missouri, Indiana and Wichita State before they start Big 12 play.
Arizona Wildcats +1200
Came into the week as the top ranked team in the country. The Wildcats are unbeaten, with wins over Duke and Michigan State on the season. Things will not get easier, as they have Wisconsin, Purdue and Alabama before Christmas. Arizona is one of the top offensive teams in the country, with nearly 94 points per game.
UConn Huskies +1300
Coach Hurley and his squad gave the Kansas Jayhawks all they wanted at home last week. The Huskies took their first loss in quite some time in that one. Now, UConn will prepare for a Big East title. Tristen Newton is the top scorer for the Huskies with 17.1 per game, while Donovan Clingan has been great as well, with nearly 14 points per game.
Kentucky Wildcats +1500
John Calipari and his Kentucky Wildcats are coming off a tough loss at home to UNC Wilmington. Not a great loss, but a loss in December that you can reference all season if you are John Calipari. The Wildcats are once again young, and seem to be hot or cold. The Wildcats will be one of the contenders to win the SEC.
Marquette Golden Eagles +1600
Shaka Smart has a very talented team. The Golden Eagles are a really good defensive team, and have shot makers. It will be interesting to see if they can handle without a true big in the post. The recent win for the Golden Eagles over Texas was impressive, as Tyler Kolek poured in 28 points.
Houston Cougars +1600
Why is it not a surprise that the Houston Cougars are once again a top contender to win it all. The Cougars are in their first season as members of the Big 12 and have another elite team. L.J. Cryer is the top scorer for the Cougars, and emerging as one of the best in the country. The Cougars will take on Texas A+M before Christmas, as probably their final chance for a loss before Big 12 play.
Duke Blue Devils +2000
It has been a slow start for the Blue Devils with three early losses. The Blue Devils are in danger of falling out of the Top 25. Duke will still get plenty of attention come tournament time. Their three losses came to Arizona, Arkansas and an ACC opener to Georgia Tech. The Blue Devils have two potential lottery picks, so no one feels sorry for their slow start.
Those are 8 of the top teams in the country and their updated odds to win it all. It should be a fun 2024 version of the College Basketball season.
